John,
The House is voting this week on key pieces of gun safety legislation. These bills include measures to raise the age requirement for purchasing semi-automatic weapons and prevent those unable to pass a background check from purchasing a firearm using a proxy.
I believe that the primary role of a Member of Congress is to represent the American people. While the vast majority of Americans support common-sense gun reform measures, we continue to see no action from Republican leaders. Our elected officials have the power to take action — it’s time they use it.
As a mother of two young boys, I won’t accept this new normal of active shooter drills in our schools and senseless gun violence in our country. I’m proud to have been recognized by Moms Demand Action as a Gun Sense Candidate for my commitment to common-sense gun safety reforms like universal background checks, safe gun storage laws, and red flag laws.
This election will decide many things, but among them, what the future looks like for our children. While Republicans want to arm teachers and turn our schools into militarized war zones, I choose to strive for a safer world where our kids are free to learn and grow in peace, without the looming threat of gunfire around them. It’s possible. We don’t have to live in a world where we face a constant threat of a mass shooting.
If I sound like a leader you’d like to see representing West Michigan in Congress, I hope you’ll consider making a contribution to my campaign today.

For ourselves and our children, we cannot afford to wait another moment to enact real reform.
Thank you,
Hillary
