John, There is no denying the outrageous scourge of gun violence that plagues our country. Every day, more than 100 Americans are killed with guns. And every year, roughly three million children witness gun violence of some kind. One school shooting is too many – and 27 have taken place this year alone. It is tragic and utterly unacceptable. Still, due to powerful lobbying from the NRA, Republicans at all levels of government refuse to even consider the possibility that tougher gun laws could make a difference. How many more tragedies will it take? How many more lives? I, for one, don’t want to find out. It’s long past time to act. No child or teacher should have to fear their classroom. Until we end the toxic unlimited availability of guns, we won’t have real safety in our schools or our communities. We don’t have to accept this. Everyone has a right to be safe, and we know what we need to do to make it so. What we have lacked is the political will to do it. The situation is intolerable, and everyone must demand we do better. A better world is within our reach, but only if we act. Thank you, Keith Ellisonadd your name
