Today, we are thrilled to announce a brand new virtual event series in partnership with Vote Save America and Crooked Media: The State Power Series.
From reproductive justice and trans rights to gun safety and voting rights, critical policies are increasingly coming from state legislatures – not the federal government.
How can states be bastions for progressive policies that make all of our lives better?
This four-part series will feature hosts from Crooked Media, organizers, analysts, elected officials, legal experts, and thought-leaders who are radically reimagining how to build progressive power at the state level. The series will be moderated by Sister District Co-Founder Gaby Goldstein and Crooked Media Senior Political Director Shaniqua McClendon.
Our first event is June 28. Join us to learn from leaders at the forefront of the progressive state legislative movement!
On June 28, we will kick off the State Power Series with “After Roe: Reproductive and Civil Rights Move to States,” featuring:
- Erin Ryan, host of Crooked Media's Hysteria podcast
- Imani Gandy, Senior Editor of Law and Policy for Rewire News Group, and
- Leah Litman, Professor of Law at University of Michigan and co-host of Crooked Media’s Strict Scrutiny podcast
In this important conversation, we’ll discuss the Dobbs Supreme Court decision, and how the GOP has been working for decades to erode federal civil and reproductive rights, including abortion access. We’ll also strategize about what we can all do next to bring the civil and reproductive rights (and justice) revolution to our states.
In August, October, and December, the series will feature events focusing on election subversion, why the left has historically under-invested in state legislatures and state power, and how we can reclaim progressive power at the state level to transform lives for the better.
