Tonight, the House Select Committee investigating the January 6
insurrection will hold its first public hearing. After 11 months of
investigation, we expect this series of hearings to provide a detailed and
harrowing account of just how terrifyingly close we came to losing our
democracy that day.

The question now turns to: how will we hold the insurrectionists
accountable for their crimes? The stakes simply couldn’t be higher at this
perilous moment in our nation’s history. Everything we stand for, and the
fundamental rights of millions of Americans, will be on the ballot this
November.

ensure full accountability for the crimes of January 6 and prevent the Far
Right from capturing control of Congress this fall. >>

It’s stunning. Most of the far-right candidates running for office this
fall are vocal supporters of Trump’s “Big Lie.” And many – such as the
Republican nominee for governor in the key swing state of Pennsylvania –
actively participated in the events of January 6!

We know exactly what these extremists are planning if they seize control
in Congress and/or state legislatures this November:

* More attacks on our fundamental right to vote.

* Shutting down access to abortion.

* Subversion of election results.

* Continued and expanded demonization of LGBTQ+ Americans.

* Intensified attacks on students’ Freedom to Learn in an attempt to
whitewash American history.

* Continued inaction on addressing mass gun violence and the white
supremacist hate that fuels so much of it.

Their long-term goal, of course, is to redefine the American Way as white
supremacy and Christian nationalism. It moves us, perhaps permanently,
down the road to authoritarianism and fascism – and we simply can’t let
that happen.

That’s why People For’s midterm election programs are aimed at turning out
the votes we need in November to prevent the cataclysmic unraveling of our
democracy and Americans’ hard-won rights.

planned the seditious conspiracy, social media events pairing our Right

And in the coming months, we’ll be going all-out to mobilize every last
pro-democracy and pro-choice voter in key states between now and November
