John,
On National Coming Out Day, your social media feed is flooded with stories of LGBTQ friends and families.
At the height of #MeToo, you couldn't scroll for more than a minute without seeing yet another friend with a story to tell.
-
The result? Mass cultural shift. The fact is, when people realize they personally know someone who has experienced what's in the news, it moves their opinion on an issue. Perhaps even more powerful, if they've experienced that too, it lets them know there's a community out there ready to support you.
This Monday, June 13th, we're doing something similar for those who've experienced abortion. Advocates for Youth and We Testify are leading a national day of storytelling on social media where people can share their abortion stories with the hashtag #OurAbortionStories.
- When people know someone who has had an abortion(s), they are more likely to support laws and policies that increase access to abortion care.
- When people who have had abortions hear our stories, they know that there is a community behind them.
We have had abortions, and we won’t be silenced or shamed.
"As we face the reality that the Supreme Court could overturn the rights guaranteed by Roe, I'm honored to share my story on Monday, and to work alongside young people across the country as we fight back and support one another. We will never let abortion access disappear."
- Tamara Marzouk, Director of Abortion Access at Advocates for Youth -
“In this pivotal moment for abortion access - we will make our voices heard! Our abortion stories deserve to be elevated and your story deserves to be listened to.”
- Renee Bracey Sherman, Founder and Executive Director of We Testify -
Sign up here today and We Testify and Advocates for Youth will equip you to share your abortion stories through a digital toolkit and virtual trainings.
