Dear John,

Congressman Greg Steube (R-Fla.) introduced the "Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act" in January of last year. This bill would ensure that federally funded schools do not allow biological males to participate in athletic competitions intended for girls. However, congressional Democrats have been preventing Steube's bill from moving forward. Congressman Jim Banks (R-Ind.) has responded to Democrats' refusal to consider the bill by filing a discharge petition. If this petition is signed by 218 members of Congress, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act will no longer be held up. It will get a vote on the House floor!

See here if Delegate Norton has signed the discharge petition, and either thank the Representative or ask them to sign on!

The need to protect women and girls' sports is not a hypothetical situation. With increasing frequency, female athletes are being stripped of their privacy, safety, and opportunity. For example, at the 2019 Connecticut Indoor Track & Field State Championships, Selina Soule was robbed of the opportunity to compete for a qualifying spot at the New England Regional Championships in the 55-meter dash because two biological males took the top two spots. This meant that Selina was unable to be seen by college scouts. Similarly, Chelsea Mitchell was robbed of a state championship title four times because these male athletes were allowed to compete in the women's track events.

Likewise, in one season of collegiate swimming, the University of Pennsylvania's Lia Thomas, a biological male, won 19 events, three league titles, and one national championship (500-yard freestyle). In the process, Thomas set multiple records and finished as the top-ranked swimmer for Division I mid-major schools as well as the highest-rated Ivy League and University of Pennsylvania women's swimmer. This erased the hard-won achievements made by female swimmers over the years and eliminated opportunities for current female athletes competing in the pool.

The Biden administration has done nothing to stop these injustices and stand up for women. Instead, President Biden had issued several executive orders that call for federal agencies to redefine "sex" in numerous contexts and both the Department of Justice and Department of Education have taken several steps to comply.

This is not acceptable, and women deserve better!

To get 218 members of Congress to support this bill, we need every signature we can get. Please take a moment to see if Delegate Norton has signed the discharge petition and reach out with either a request for signature or a thank you!

Sincerely,
