Summer of Red, White, and YOU!


It’s a celebration, and all are welcome! Come cool off with the National Constitution Center for a summer of programs and events to celebrate Red, White, and YOU! The Center offers engaging and interactive programs designed to help every visitor explore how they are a part of the story of We, the People.


Through a combination of in-person and online experiences, you can travel back in time to the writing of the Constitution, meet freedom fighters who ensured the rights in the Constitution were for all, and explore what YOU will do with your freedom to build a more perfect union. Whether in Philadelphia or across the country, we look forward to seeing you this summer!

Flag Day

Tuesday, June 14

 

Celebrate the adoption of the flag of the United States with online resources from the National Constitution Center.


Live Virtual Programs:

Virtual American Flag History and Etiquette Workshop

12 p.m. ET

Tune in for this special show, led by the National Constitution Center’s education team, and discover the history and symbolism of the American flag and learn all about the proper way to display it. Register here

 

#CaptureTheFlag Challenge

Join us for our #CaptureTheFlag Challenge! Post a photo of the American flag, a fun fact related to the flag, or a reflection of what the country’s stars and stripes mean to you on social media. Don’t forget to include the #CaptureTheFlag hashtag and be sure to follow the National Constitution Center on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

 

Educational Resources: 

Explore the freedom of speech, the history of protests in the United States, and the role that the American flag has played in these conversations.

In-Person Events in Historic Philadelphia: 

From star-spangled banners to five-star generals, Philadelphia’s historic district celebrates the shared birthday of two of our country’s greatest institutions—the American flag and the U.S. Army. Events across Old City Philadelphia include flag raising ceremonies, a patriotic parade, and more. Most events will be outdoors and free to the public; no reservations are required. Learn more 

 

Please note: The National Constitution Center will be closed on Flag Day, Tuesday, June 14.


Juneteenth

Sunday, June 19


Visitors can commemorate the end of slavery in America with special tours of the Center’s exhibit, Civil War and Reconstruction: The Battle for Freedom and Equality, the first exhibit in America devoted to exploring how constitutional clashes over slavery set the stage for the Civil War, and how the nation transformed the Constitution after the war to more fully embrace the Declaration of Independence’s promise of liberty and equality. Additional programs highlight figures from the Reconstruction era like Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, and more.

Independence Week

June 29 to July 4, 2022


Join the National Constitution Center for an array of patriotic festivities surrounding Independence Day, exploring the history of the Declaration of Independence and how the definition of “We the People” has expanded since Thomas Jefferson penned the famous words “…all men are created equal…” in 1776.

The National Constitution Center will offer FREE admission and extended museum hours on Wednesday, June 29, courtesy of Wawa for Wawa Hoagie Day, and free admission on Monday, July 4, in honor of Independence Day.

Book now for the fall! More than just a field trip, the Constitutional Ambassadors program is an intellectual, social, and skills-based educational experience in which students learn the basic principles of the U. S. Constitution, see rare historical documents, priceless artifacts, interactive exhibits, and live theater that bring contemporary discussions about the Constitution to life. 


Available topics include:

  • Freedom of Speech
  • Principles of the American Revolution
  • Separation of Powers


The Constitutional Ambassadors program is a great way to start off your school year! The program is FREE for all students in the Philadelphia area, which includes transportation to and from the Center. Scholarship funding may be available for admission and transportation for students outside of the Philadelphia region. Ask the group sales team for more information.

The National Constitution Center is a great place to give students a meaningful in-person experience and is excited to welcome visitors in accordance with local, state, and federal health agencies. We are proud to have Global Biorisk Advisory Council® (GBAC) STAR™ accreditation, recognized for cleaning and disinfecting to a higher standard to keep our building clean and safe for our guests and staff.

 

The museum is currently open and operational Wednesday – Sunday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Learn more
