During today’s House Oversight Committee Hearing, survivors of the Uvalde
and Buffalo mass shootings and their loved ones offered harrowing
testimony and advocated for urgent, meaningful action to prevent further
loss of life at the hands of gun violence in America.

legislation to end the gun violence epidemic.

In her opening statement, Ayanna called out our country’s unique failure
to protect its people from gun violence or support survivors:
Only in America do we consider arming teachers while failing to pay them a
livable wage.
Only in America do survivors have to start GoFundMe pages to afford mental
health and trauma supports.
Only in America do we expect survivors who have barely buried their loved
ones to make the case for policymakers to save lives.
Only in America.
Gun violence is a public health crisis inflicting pain and trauma on
communities nationwide. It’s a moral failure, a policy failure, and it’s
entirely preventable.
We cannot allow Republicans in Congress to continue to deflect, tout
failed policies, hide behind the filibuster and block life-saving gun
reform.

legislation and save lives.
