John,

Remember the Police Bill? It was the one where Priti Patel tried to push through new legislation like Serious Disruption Prevention Orders (basically ASBOs for potential protestors) and an extension of stop and search, attacking vital forms of peaceful protest and further harming heavily policed communities and people of colour. [1]

Together, we managed to get these plans scrapped. But now the same plans are back under a slightly different name: the Public Order Bill.

Outrageous right?

Priti Patel is about to bring this “new” bill to Parliament - will you help show her that thousands of people are against this assault on democracy? Just add your name now.

In the five years I’ve worked at Greenpeace, we’ve shut down Downing Street to demand an end to new oil and gas, taken action at land and sea to confront the biggest palm oil traders razing forests to the ground in Indonesia, and dropped boulders at sea to protect our oceans from industrial fishing. We’ve forced governments and companies to change - and we have to keep doing it for the sake of people and the planet.

This bill won’t stop us - but it would be a huge blow to how we make change happen.

And this bill will have massive impacts on so many people. The proposed rules on locking on could criminalise people even linking arms, or having everyday items (like bikelocks) in their possession! Plus, new stop and search powers would massively impact people's right to privacy, free speech and protest - and marginalised communities will bear the brunt. [1]

This government is going down a path we cannot accept: our society is built on freedom that has been hard fought by brave people for centuries.

Will you add your name and show Priti Patel that we will fight for freedom and our right to protest? The bill is going through parliament over the next few weeks so it’s crucial we act now.

We beat the government on this once. Let’s do it again.

P.S. We can’t give up the fight for freedom and the right to protest - no matter what new name Priti Patel gives this bill. Will you quickly add your name here and speak out against this latest assault on democracy before it gets through Parliament?
