Housing And Children's Health
The Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) is the US federal government's primary policy for financing new affordable rental
housing. Nearly 29 percent, or approximately 557,000, of the LIHTC units house children.
Their findings with respect to health care access and health status were mixed. Children living in LIHTC properties had a higher predicted probability of having a well-child visit in the past twelve months and a dental visit in the past six months.
However, these children also had a higher predicted probability of chronic school absenteeism and current asthma – results that surprised Gensheimer and colleagues.
