Did you see my message last month about right-wing insurrectionism? Well, this week, the Jan. 6th committee is holding 6 high-profile hearings about the coup attempt, The Justice Department is investigating a U.S. general for secretly lobbying for a foreign country, and Ron DeSantis' spokesperson retroactively registered as a foreign agent. In short, it's not slowing down.

Republicans are doing everything they can to turn our democracy into an autocracy. They are friendly to foreign money and influence, they restrict voting rights at every turn, and they do everything they can to block proper legislation. If Republicans cooperated and wanted to actually help the American people, they wouldn't block every effort for gun reform, economic assistance, healthcare, and all the other propositions that they shoot down immediately.

Last week, on his new social media platform Truth Social, Donald Trump shared a post that just said “civil war.” This is the latest in a long line of insurrectionist messaging to his base that has gravely endangered our democracy.

It has been almost a year and a half since hundreds of far-right conspiracy theorists stormed the Capitol, looking to overthrow the democratic results of the presidential election. And yet, the man who sparked, fueled, and defended the event, the one person who is the most responsible for the coup attempt, former president Donald J. Trump, has gone free.

Over 80% of Republican voters at the time of the 2020 election believed Trump’s lies about election fraud. Now, the large majority of Republican senators still refuse to acknowledge Biden’s victory, and many lawmakers still peddle lies on a daily basis.

This is not normal.

This is a blatant attempt to destroy our democracy and plant “their guys” into power, no matter what it takes. The 2024 election will rest on very fragile ground, here’s why;

Congress has the power to decide on their authority that the results of the presidential election cannot be verified. In this case, they get to vote on the president themselves, bypassing the election entirely. If the party that holds Congress decides that they don’t like the result of the election, they have the constitutional power to just change it. The last time something like this happened was in 1877.

Let’s be crystal clear; Republicans are setting up to do something like this. They tried to steal the 2020 election, and they’re still peddling that nonsense. That was their trial run. They are getting ready to do something bigger in 2024. The only way we can truly stop this in its tracks is to ensure that Republicans do not control enough votes to bypass the election. Let’s make sure that the 2022 midterms go BLUE!
