Hi there,

Each year, on June 8th, we come together as a planet to recognize the importance of the ocean. It has so much to offer us - poetry and pathos, wonder, and wisdom. However, maybe the most important thing the ocean offers is its lesson of unity. From the air we breathe to the ships we sail, the ocean quite literally connects us all, making our world possible.

The ocean isn’t infinite and it’s not indestructible – it’s fragile. But the ocean is also resilient. Just like us.

Though endless reports detailing the decline of ocean health can make us feel powerless to reverse the damage, the ocean reminds us that when we work together, we can make a difference. A great example is the Endangered Species Act, legislation that helped bring humpback whales back from the brink of extinction. When we raise our voices together we can create the future we want to see.

That’s why I am so excited to celebrate this year’s UN World Oceans Day. The theme is Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean and the online event [[link removed]] was centered on solutions from stewards around the world who are working tirelessly for a future with clean seas.

For us at Lonely Whale, the ocean is at the heart of what we do every single day – and we are so honored that you continue to show up with us to empower youth voices, redesign supply chains, and support collaborations that all have one goal in mind: to keep plastic out of the ocean.

If you’re inspired by the work we do, you can show your commitment by amplifying our work on social media or, if you’re able to do so, become a monthly donor [[link removed]] to support our programs.

And remember, you don’t need to be near water to celebrate World Oceans Day because it is all around us. Give yourself the space and time to connect with the ocean in yourself and your community. Together, we can honor the beating heart of our blue planet.

With thanks,

Adrian Grenier
