Last July, LDAD authored a complaint against Texas Attorney General Kenneth Paxton for having filed an unethical Supreme Court lawsuit seeking to overturn the 2020 election results in four states. Sixteen distinguished Texas lawyers joined in this effort as co-complainants.
We are pleased to announce that on May 25, the State Bar of Texas filed a disciplinary petition alleging that Mr. Paxton made multiple “dishonest” representations to the Court, including that “an outcome determinative number of votes were tied to unregistered voters.” The petition seeks a sanction and judgement of professional misconduct be entered against Mr. Paxton.
According to the Texas State Bar, its proceeding was initiated by complaints filed by the public, including LDAD's. Our complaint provided
analysis and arguments that support some of their misrepresentation claims against Mr. Paxton.
As Gershon (Gary) Ratner, our co-founder and principal author of the complaint, notes: “A license to practice law is not a license to misuse the courts to seek to overthrow our democracy."
Lawyers Defending American Democracy appreciates the hard work of the State Bar of Texas. Click here for Gary’s fuller detail about this matter.
