During the 2020 elections, People For joined in piloting a cutting edge new get out the vote campaign: letter writing. Yes, that’s right – the tried-and-true method of handwritten letters was tested to help encourage voter participation among unlikely voters, and it paid off in a big way – boosting nationwide voter turnout by almost 1%! [1,2]
People For members were instrumental in the success of this program and were praised by our partners for their efforts: with a thousand members sending over 70,000 letters to voters across the country. And again, for Virginia’s 2021 election, People For members sent over 20,000 letters!
This is a great opportunity to provide personal outreach to unlikely and underrepresented voters in key elections across the country. With what appears to be ever-increasing stakes for this year’s elections, voter turnout is going to be crucial in preventing a far-right takeover of Congress or worse.
The Big Send Project has a goal of writing 10 MILLION letters this year, so any time you can spare to helping convince voters to cast their ballot is deeply appreciated. We also encourage you to recruit friends and family members to join – it’s a great and easy way to help increase voter turnout from your very own home!
