Greetings,

Today marks the opening of COP 25 ([link removed]) , the 2019 UN Climate Conference, taking place over the next two weeks in Madrid.

In the wake of news that the planet is heading toward a global tipping point ([link removed]) , world leaders are gathering to negotiate the details of their nations' commitments, as outlined in the Paris Agreement, with the aim to both scale up and expedite much-needed climate action.

IISD will have a strong presence at the conference this year, with analysts from our Resilience and Energy teams taking part in numerous events ([link removed]) while our Earth Negotiations Bulletin covers the action ([link removed]) through daily reports.

For the first time, we'll be hosting a COP halftime show: a free webinar ([link removed]) on December 8 to give a concise update on key developments and what to watch for in the second week of talks. Our expert, Jennifer Allan, who has been covering these events for years, will be ready to answer your questions.

And for those who need it, we have a primer ([link removed]) on all things COP 25, as well as influential research ([link removed]) and story ideas ([link removed]) for journalists. Check it out at iisd.org/cop and let us know what you think!

Vanessa
