Dear Friend,

I[ am deeply grateful and humbled by this 67% vote of confidence from the voters in Contra Costa and Solano Counties.]([link removed]) This decisive victory creates strong momentum for the General Election on November 8th and gives us an opportunity to continue the critically important work that’s before us.

When I announced my re-election bid to Congress in California’s 8th Congressional District, I vowed to never stop fighting for working families across our community. As I reflect on our victory in tonight’s Primary Election, I am filled with unyielding hope and determination to carry out the important work to best serve Solano and Contra Costa Counties.

This week, I will return to Washington and immediately vote to advance common-sense reforms to address the plague of gun violence in America—which recently left 19 schoolchildren and two teachers dead at Robb Elementary School in Texas. Far too many politicians put the NRA’s needs ahead of the safety of our children. I’m the author of the first assault weapons ban to become law anywhere in America, which was used as the basis for the federal assault weapons ban from 1994 to 2004. I will work day and night to ensure a new federal assault weapons ban becomes law. We will stand up to the NRA and its supporters in Congress.

Looking ahead, we must also work each and every day to protect a woman’s right to choose. As the Supreme Court appears poised to end the crucial protections for women’s healthcare provided by Roe v Wade, I have voted to pass the ‘Women’s Health Protection Act,’ which would make the crucial rights under Roe v Wade federal law. We will not go back to the dark days before women’s reproductive health was a guarantee. I will fight every day in Washington to ensure a woman’s right to choose is protected for generations to come.

Climate change is an existential crisis, but it provides us with tremendous opportunity. We can build the sustainable economy of the future right here in the Bay Area. I am working to institute the I-80 bio-manufacturing corridor. Utilizing the innovations from UC Berkeley and Davis, and our skilled and trained workforce in the region, we can develop and manufacture the energy and materials needed for a clean and prosperous economy for all while providing good-paying jobs to individuals from all backgrounds.

Everyone deserves a solid education and a good-paying job. I will be working in the months ahead to establish a universal pre-K system, expand the Pell Grant to make a college education attainable for all, and invest in vocational education and training.

I also recently helped secure a $13 million investment into Mare Island Dry Dock, and I will work with local, state, and federal representatives to ensure this historic investment creates new good-paying jobs for residents of Solano and Contra Costa Counties.

Californians are seeing more of their paychecks eaten up by rising housing costs. I’ve introduced legislation to build millions of new affordable homes and rental units, and I am determined to enact it into law and ensure everyone has a roof over their heads at a reasonable price.

Every American is struggling at the pump and at the grocery store with rising costs. This month, President Biden will sign my ‘Ocean Shipping Reform Act’ legislation into law, which will tackle our nation’s inflation and supply chain issues to lower costs on essential goods for Americans.

As California’s first elected Insurance Commissioner, I took on the big insurance companies that nickel and dime every Californian out of affordable healthcare. In Congress, I will continue working to advance Medicare for All and other priorities that will make free, good-quality healthcare available to all.

We have our work cut out for us, and I couldn’t be more thankful to everyone who participated in this election. I will take your voice with me to Washington and continue working on your behalf. I am hopeful that this bold, positive vision I have shared with Solano and Contra Costa Counties will lead to victory in November the same way it has tonight. I am incredibly hopeful for the days ahead. Together, we will create a prosperous future for every member of California’s 8th Congressional District

Thank you so much for your [support]([link removed]).

Sincerely,

JOHN GARAMENDI
