After yesterday’s primary, this California Senate race is down to Alex Padilla and Mark Meuser. And frankly, the choice could not be more clear.

As California Secretary of State, Alex expanded access to the ballot through reforms like automatic voter registration and the Voter’s Choice Act, which offered voters more options and flexibility in when, where, and how to vote including vote-by-mail and in-person early voting.

And in the Senate, Alex has been fighting for pro-democracy legislation like the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. And when Republican obstruction blocked both bills, Alex was one of the first to call for the elimination of the filibuster.

Meanwhile, Mark Meuser sued Alex over California’s program to automatically register driver’s license applicants as voters. He’s also come out in support of purging voter rolls, questioned the results of the 2020 election, and has tweeted that Donald Trump is right about voter fraud.

Meuser is also anti-choice, calling Roe v. Wade “a bad constitutional decision,” and he opposes gun control. When asked about mass shootings he blamed video games, and he’s against expanded background checks for would-be gun buyers.

Yes, his views are way out of line with California, but we cannot afford to underestimate him. He's coming into this race with the full support — and financial resources — of the California GOP.

Just like they spent millions of dollars on the failed right-wing Recall attempt against Governor Newsom, they are willing to spend millions of dollars coming after Alex.
