Dear Friends,

If you haven’t seen our presentation “With Democrats Things Get Better” I want to encourage you to come to one of two upcoming showings, or watch a recording of either when posted.

Simply, this presentation is one of the most important projects I’ve ever been involved in, and one of the most important things ever to come out of NDN.

You can register for either showing here, and also go there to learn more about this vital project.  Tomorrow’s showing is at 1230pm ET.

The presentation tells a powerful story.  It shows that in this age of globalization with smart policies America has and can make significant progress.  That narratives about American decline, or falling behind, are misplaced, and that we should be far more optimistic about our collective ability to tackle the challenges of today and tomorrow.

But this presentation also makes very clear that during this time of progress the post-Reagan Republican Party has lost its way and has repeatedly failed to do its part.  In the period we examine in the presentation, 1989 to present day, we learn that of the 44 million jobs created during this time only 2m were created by Republican Presidents.  That each of the last 3 Republicans led the country into recession, and each created spiraling annual deficits which they left to their Democratic successors.   It is this repeated failure to manage the challenges of a new age that has left the party of Lincoln and Reagan vulnerable to capture by reactionary extremists, who are now leading this once proud party in such a dangerous direction.

This presentation shows that when in power Democrats, on the other hand, have repeatedly made the country better.  Our economy has grown, wages have risen, deficits have come down, tens of millions have gained health insurance and crime has come way down.  Our modern approach has allowed America to prosper in this age of globalization.   And this repeated governing success has benefitted Democrats politically too.  Voters who have come of age after Reagan, those in the mid to late 40s and younger are overwhelmingly Democratic; and Democrats have now won more votes in 7 of the last 8 Presidential elections, the best popular vote run by a political party in American history.

We end the presentation by going even further back in history and find inspiration in the extraordinary contributions made by the Democratic Party over the past century – winning WWII, creating the liberal international order which came after, leading the battle for civil rights, creating our modern social safety net…..For a century now the Democratic Party has made things better for the American people, and the people of the world.  It is a track record to be proud of, and one which we should be drawing on now to inspire us to meet a new set of challenges for a new day.

So join us.  Check out this compelling presentation and the powerful story it tells.  In these contentious and difficult times, we need to be reminded about how much good we can do, together.  This presentation is such a reminder.  We hope you come experience it with us this month.   You will be glad you did – we promise.

Onward,

 Simon
