Dear John,

I hope you will join me for a special reception at Evofem Biosciences on Tuesday, June 28 (5:30 pm -7:00 pm) to support Barbara Bry, a candidate for San Diego County Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk. Please RSVP here.

I’m proud to support Barbara, who has served as a trailblazer in our community—as an early executive at CONNECT, an instrumental part in growing our region’s innovation economy, as an entrepreneur starting companies, as the founder of Athena San Diego, empowering women in tech and biotech, as a San Diego City Councilmember, and as a non-profit leader serving as President of the Children’s Museum of San Diego.

Barbara’s goal is to bring equity, transparency, accountability, and new technology to this office and ensure that EVERYONE pays their fair and legal amount under the law. The Assessor cannot change Proposition 13; only the voters have that power. Property tax revenues generate billions of dollars which support education and other public services.

Technology is a big issue in ensuring this office functions well, and it’s an area where this office is in trouble.

  • A few weeks ago, the former chief technology official pleaded guilty to funneling contracts to his wife.

  • The office has struggled for several years to implement what is called an integrated property tax management system that would streamline the appraisal to collection process and ensure that valuable revenue isn’t slipping through the cracks.

  • Residents are sent to a third-party website to conduct property searches, and then pay a fee after a certain number of searches. In Los Angeles, this is all done in-house for free.

  • The website is not easily accessible and desperately needs to be updated.

Clearly, it’s time for new leadership in the office of County Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk, and it’s time for us to step up for Barbara and her proven track record of success.

Please RSVP here and join us on Tuesday, June 28.

Sincerely,

Saundra Pelletier, CEO
