John,
Let me begin by saying thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting our campaign. Although we did not come out on top tonight, I am so proud of the work we’ve done together.
Together, our campaign fought for what’s right even when it was difficult – issues like universal health care no matter your income, the right to an abortion, affordable housing, a living wage, and making billionaires and corporations pay their fair share of taxes. We never compromised our Montana values in order to appease rich and powerful interests. The integrity of the people of Montana has inspired us to be better public servants.
Despite the outcome, it’s clear that working Montanans overwhelmingly support the popular progressive policies we fight for. The only thing preventing structural reforms is our broken political system corrupted by money that only serves the rich.
One thing I am incredibly proud of is our grassroots campaign model: Together, we engaged thousands of Montanans across the political spectrum thanks to the hundreds of Montanans we activated as organizers in their communities.
Our campaign may have fallen short in votes but the strength of the policies and Montana values we pushed for is no less true today.
Now, it’s time to move forward and unite behind Monica Tranel. I encourage you to visit her website and support her campaign in whichever way works best for you.
Working Montanans cannot afford Ryan Zinke’s outright corruption – and we cannot afford to send him back to Congress. Together, we must get Montana’s politics working for the people again.
In Solidarity,
Tom
