John,

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been our nation’s greatest tool for combating climate change. But after four years of funding cuts and sabotage by the Trump administration, the agency is struggling to recover.

As part of his plan to tackle climate change, President Biden pledged to rebuild the EPA. Due to GOP obstructionists in Congress, however, the agency remains severely underfunded. While the EPA’s budget did receive a marginal boost last year, congressional Republicans made sure it was only a fraction of what Biden asked for.

Even worse, the increase does not keep up with the skyrocketing rate of inflation – meaning the agency has even less spending power now than it did under Trump. John, we need to make sure President Biden has allies in Congress to support his efforts to revitalize the EPA. Can you donate right now to help us send more pro-environment voices to Congress? A weak EPA is extremely dangerous to the future of our planet, John. The agency is severely understaffed, with the lowest staffing levels since the Reagan administration. It even lacks basic services any office requires like sufficient IT support. Last October, part of the agency’s computer system used to store data on the health hazards that hundreds of new chemicals may pose went down for two weeks.

This is simply unacceptable for the nation’s top environmental regulator. The lack of funding hinders its ability to inspect facilities, measure contamination, punish violators, and write new rules to combat climate change.

John, at a time when scientists say the world needs to act NOW to reign in climate change, we need to make sure our SEEC Members in Congress have the support they need to fight for a strong, well funded EPA. Donate today to rebuild the EPA! [[link removed]]
