Transit Riders Favorably Assess Mayor’s Transition Plan Against the Pittsburgh 100 Days Transit Platform, and Highlight Opportunities for Funding City Priorities Through Federal Infrastructure Plan |
Last month, Mayor Gainey released his Transit Plan that outlines his list of policy goals for his administration. PPT assessed the Mayor’s Transition Plan against 100 Days Transit Platform that our organization released just before he took office and found a high level of alignment on nearly all of the platform’s 18 policy recommendations.
Check out our blog to see our full assessment of how the Mayor's plan measures up against our vision for transit justice in the City of Pittsburgh. PPT is proud to have had a seat at the table in crafting the Transition Plan, and celebrates the City’s inclusive process around their transition.

Nominations are open for new and existing PPT members to run for our Board of Directors. All PPT members in good standing are eligibleto vote from July 13th-20th. |
Pittsburghers for Public Transit is a democratic, member-led organization that fights for public transit as a human right. That’s a small "d" democratic, meaning that every July PPT members elect the next slate of candidates who will lead the direction and strategy of our organization.
6 of our amazing board members are up for reelection this year, but some of them won't be running. So if you are interested in stepping up to join PPT in our organizing for better transit in Allegheny County, or if you know others who are, submit a nomination on our form today. |

Dawn Plummer: As prices rise, Pittsburgh needs a transportation policy for everyone
|
When the Port Authority decided that fares would be free for two weeks, it demonstrated that it had the ability to rapidly restructure fare costs to benefit riders dealing with hardship.
Dawn Plummer and the Pittsburgh Food Policy Council took the opportunity to write an opinion piece in the Post-Gazette to reflect on what we can learn from Port Authority's decision, and to continue the advocacy for a low-income fare at the Port Authority. |

PPT is going to DC for the Poor People's and Low-Wage Workers' Assembly and Moral March on Washington and to the Polls! Join us there or support from afar.
|
The Poor People's Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival is the resurgence of Dr. Martin Luther King's Poor People's Campaign that he was leading when he was assassinated in 1968. On June 18th, PPT is heading to DC to join hundreds of Pennsylvanians and thousands of people from across the county to say enough is enough. We're sick of a system that produces an excess of abundance for the 1%, while at the same time leaves 140 million poor. We're getting organized - and demanding resources for the things that we need: public transit, housing, healthcare, education, schools, and a clean environment for all. |

| Uplift Transit and Sidewalks in 2023 City Budget Community Priority Survey |
Mayor Gainey's administration is collecting feedback on its Capital Budget for 2023. This is the perfect moment to uplift City investments in infrastructure that benefits transit riders. Comfortable, accessible bus stops, sidewalks, lighting, bus lanes. These are all within the City's powers and we need to make sure they hear that Pittsburghers want them. |
