We won, friends!
#TeamVasquez won the primary election for New Mexico’s 2nd congressional district yesterday, making us the official Democratic campaign to take on MAGA extremist Yvette Herrell in November. I could not be more honored to have your support in this race.
Our people-powered movement is moving forward to the general! Can you help fuel our campaign to flip NM-02 over these next five months by pitching in any amount today?
Thank you to those on the campaign team, to our grassroots supporters, and to all the volunteers who have spent countless hours on the phone, in front of their computers, driving through New Mexico's winding roads, working weekends away from families — I see you and I thank you. I am so honored that you believe in me.
As a first-generation American, I learned that the American Dream is so much more than a saying. The American Dream is knowing with certainty that the life you are building will lead to an even better life for your children. It’s knowing that your hard work will be rewarded.
But right now, with our current representative in this seat playing partisan politics and pushing an extreme, far-right agenda, this dream is not an attainable reality for many New Mexicans. Yvette Herrell has proven one thing in her time in office, and it’s that she is wrong for New Mexico.
Over the next five months, it will take all of us coming together and working hard to bring progress and a leader who reflects the values of our communities here in NM-02 to Congress.
As I drove across our beautiful district over the last year and met so many amazing people, I found myself thinking about a future in which we all thrive. A future where:
Working families and single parents don't have to choose between going to work, school, or paying for childcare.
People no longer have to choose between paying their utility bills or saving for their children’s education;
Undocumented neighbors, coworkers, friends and relatives are not living in fear because they are able to achieve a path to citizenship;
Women don't have to fight for their own reproductive and civil rights, and have the power to control their own bodies and decide if or when they want to start a family;
Our veterans receive the same high-quality healthcare whether they live in Lordsburg or Albuquerque;
We protect the livelihoods and health of fossil fuel workers while shifting aggressively to a renewable energy economy that sustains rural communities;
Our LBGTQ relatives don’t face hardship or discrimination, and are treated with respect;
When we kiss our children goodbye before they get on the bus, we know they'll be safe;
And we have the policies and procedures in place to protect our elderly and immunocompromised from Covid.
I know this is a future that is within reach, and that change starts at the ballot box. Yesterday, you spoke loud and clear. Today, we get back to work to flip this seat blue in November and set our district on the path to a better, brighter future.
These next five months won't be easy, but with your confidence and faith in me, I commit to you that I will continue to carry the teachings of my Southern New Mexico community, and I will fight for this place that has raised me. I will make you proud.
Thank you. Si se puede!
Gabe
PS — Can you help us kick-start our general election fundraising? With Trump and the GOP behind Herrell, we’re going to need all the resources we can get! Chip in here →
