Hi —

Roughly a third of Pennsylvania's waterways are too polluted for swimming or eating fish that are caught. 1 With a problem of that scale, we need programs that are going to meet those challenges — and a dynamic program called Growing Greener can do just that.

Growing Greener has been the largest single investment of state funds in Pennsylvania's history to address some of our top environmental concerns. It’s funded streamwide tree plantings, addressed acid mine drainage, and given farmers the training and tools to keep pollutants out of our water.

Right now, the state legislature has an opportunity to approve a new round of investments to extend Growing Greener using American Rescue Plan dollars — but it’s far from a done deal. Will you join us and our friends at Tookany-Tacony/Frankford Watershed to tell your lawmakers to support providing a steady source of funding for our state parks, trails, and forests so that these places can be enjoyed by everyone?

Since 1999, the Growing Greener program has been a lifeline to conservation and clean water projects across the state, providing critical support to community-driven work that improves and protects our cities and towns. Totaling more than $1 billion in investments, it has helped to slash the backlog of farmland-preservation projects statewide, eliminate the maintenance backlog in state parks, clean up abandoned mines, provide funds for recreational trails and local parks, help communities address land use; and provide new and upgraded water and sewer systems.

These kinds of investments bring lasting benefits to communities across the state — from clean water to open spaces to recreational pursuits for Pennsylvanians and tourists alike — and they make strong fiscal sense, too. It’s well known that state environmental investments provide tremendous rates of return — whether the measure is job creation and economic activity, avoided costs (such as public health and flooding), net tax revenues, or the wellbeing of people and communities.

We have the unique opportunity to make great projects happen in PA communities now, with economic and environmental benefits that will extend for generations to come. And, it’s completely paid for! Send a message to your lawmakers right now urging them to fund Growing Greener III [[link removed]]

Thanks for all that you do.
