Do you need to give on #GivingTuesday?

Our case for ending the capital shuffle around Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and #GivingTuesday.

This time each year, #GivingTuesday provides an outlet to support organizations whose work aligns with our values. It also offers a pathway to absolve ourselves from the spending of the days preceding it.

What is broken with this balancing act of spending and giving? How do our choices on Giving Tuesday (and throughout the holiday season) affect nonprofits?

Read our response on Medium.

To repair the economic systems that have tipped the scales on spending and giving — those that exacerbate wealth inequality and encourage consumption — we are asking for your support:  to #ShiftCapital a little bit differently today.

Giving Tuesday is a critical day for so many nonprofits, and while we're calling for your support, we hope that in years to come, we can change the way we think about giving (both for institutions and individuals) and shed light on the challenges of community leaders in our network who seek funding year-round.

Please consider making a gift this season to Common Future and other nonprofits you support, but also consider making a gift on March 7th, June 19th, or any other day of the year. By doing this, you cast a vote of confidence and let us know this is work that cannot wait.
