Dear John,

As someone committed to improving the lives of people with low incomes, you know that securing equitable voting rights is essential to building a better Alabama for all. Will you help us continue our work to ensure fair elections with a donation today?

The struggle for voting rights for Black residents is a flashpoint in Alabama’s history that led to Selma’s Bloody Sunday, the march to Montgomery and the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Unfortunately, even after decades of hard-fought progress, Alabama’s voting systems remain unnecessarily expensive and exclusionary, especially for people who are the most marginalized.

This year’s legislative session was yet another that saw efforts to pass several regressive voting rights bills. That’s why it’s urgent that we continue our work year-round to protect and strengthen protections for our state’s voters. Will you join us today to continue Alabama’s long fight toward free and fair elections?

Federal voting protections are now regularly at risk of being gutted at the U.S. Supreme Court. That makes it even more vital that we push our lawmakers to defend and codify our voting rights at a state level.

Alabama Arise and our partners, including ACLU, Alabama Appleseed, SPLC, Greater Birmingham Ministries, Alabama Forward, and the League of Women Voters, worked hard this year to advance equitable elections. We stopped two bills that would have created cumbersome regulations for completing and delivering absentee ballots. We also made legislative progress on bills to lift barriers to voting rights restoration and to simplify the state’s complicated absentee voting process.

You know our democracy is strongest when everyone can participate ‒ when all the unnecessary barriers that make it harder to vote are removed. By joining Arise today, you can amplify your voice and the voices of others across the state fighting to ensure all Alabamians are heard.

With your support, we can enact policies to protect and expand voting rights. We can move Alabama away from a shameful past and toward a brighter future where all voices are valued and included.

In solidarity,

Mike Nicholson
