Dear John,
As a fifth generation Montanan and avid sportsman, I’m glad to see my resolution to designate June 2022 as ‘Great Outdoors Month’ pass the United States Senate. From hunting and fly-fishing to backpacking and biking, exploring the great outdoors is part of our Montana way of life.
I'm always looking for ways to encourage folks to get outside and experience everything our national parks and public lands have to offer.
Recently, I joined folks at Yellowstone National Park to commemorate its 150th anniversary and celebrate the opening of the new Tower-Roosevelt to Chittenden Road which will help expand public access to public lands.
Our parks help set us apart from the rest of the world, and Yellowstone was the very first!
While visiting Yellowstone, I also received a briefing on the state of employee housing in Mammoth Hot Springs.
Yellowstone Park Superintendent Cam Sholly has invested in employee housing which has helped raise employee morale.
We need to build upon this good work and pass my bipartisan bill with Senator Angus King to support gateway communities.
As your voice in the United States Senate, and as the top Republican on the Senate Subcommittee on National Parks, I will continue working on policies that make our public lands more accessible and encourage folks to explore Montana's great outdoors.
Sincerely,
Senator Steve Daines
