Pride Month is a time to honor and celebrate the achievements of the LGBTQ+ community, and to recognize that we still have lots of work ahead of us to achieve full equality for all people — including transgender and non-binary folks.
We must remember that Pride began as a protest. Led by Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson, the Stonewall riots demanded an end to police brutality and a more equitable world for LGBTQ+ people.
This year, Pride month comes at a time when Republican state legislatures across the country continue to attack transgender people and strip them of their rights — especially the rights of trans youth.
We simply cannot allow anti-LGBTQ+ hate to fester — not on our watch.
