Happy Pride Month, team!

Every single month – but especially in June – I’m proud to be the first openly lesbian mom in Congress.

I’ve faced challenges to get here. I fought hard in an adoption battle for my son, Joshua, because the judge claimed having two moms was “not in the best interests of any child.”

Thankfully, he was overruled, and now, I’m the mom of four amazing young men. But for so many LGBTQ Americans, challenges still remain. 

In 2022, more than 300 anti-LGBTQ bills were proposed in at least 28 states. While I joined my NewDem colleagues in passing the Equality Act in Congress last year, Republicans have refused to join us in protecting LGBTQ Americans from discrimination.

If we lose our House Majority to Republicans, there’s no doubt that they will use their edge to enact an extreme, anti-LGBTQ agenda in Congress. 

I’m just one of a handful of openly LGBTQ members of Congress being targeted for defeat by the NRCC, and I’m turning to you for support to defend my seat and our Democratic House Majority.
