Here’s an argument that I don’t buy:

Some people say that debates on gun safety are about individual rights and the role of government.

But right-wing extremists who oppose any action on gun reform aren’t exactly consistent from issue to issue.

They don’t want the government to be able to stop someone from being as fully armed as possible. But they do want the government to be able to swoop into a private decision between a pregnant woman, her doctor, and her loved ones.

What’s more, far-right Republicans have shown that they’re not interested in doing anything for babies after they’re born. Their silence on issues like gun reform, universal child care and pre-k, and public school funding has made that crystal clear. And where are their bright ideas to support the Biden administration’s work to get more baby formula back on shelves? All I’ve seen are pointed fingers, and all I’ve heard are crickets.

So here’s the way I see it: this fight isn’t about big government vs. small government — it’s about right-wing extremists trying to use the power of the government when it suits them to advance a dangerous, out-of-touch, far-right agenda.

I’m going to do everything I can to keep Republicans out of power in these midterm elections. I’m going to do my part to expand our Democratic majorities so we can abolish the filibuster and deliver more results. And as the Supreme Court prepares to rule on restricting abortion access and loosening gun laws, I’m going to keep fighting to expand the Court. But I can’t do it alone.
