John, when an emergency like the war in Ukraine strikes, our top concern at Save the Children is protecting children’s lives and futures. That includes meeting their immediate needs and addressing the long-term impact that an emergency can have on children’s mental health and socioemotional development.

That’s why Save the Children’s sister organization, Save the Children Action Network (SCAN), is urging Congress to pass the Mental Health in International Development and Humanitarian Settings (MINDS Act) immediately.

The MINDS Act ensures that appropriate funding is made available to support the mental health and psychosocial well-being of children affected by conflict and other emergencies. We’re looking for another 15 supporters to join us in calling on Congress to pass this crucial legislation, and we’re counting on you to be one of them.

Will you join SCAN in calling for this critical mental health support legislation now? Click here to contact your representative. >> : [link removed]

Conflict, war and other destabilizing events expose children to high levels of stress over extended periods of time – negatively impacting their physical and mental health. Save the Children works to mitigate these consequences through mental health and psychosocial support programming, allowing children to access services and activities that promote psychosocial wellness and recovery.

Physically and emotionally safe and supportive environments – where children can play, create, interact and express themselves – are an important factor in helping children recover. That’s why you’ve seen us share so much recently about child-friendly spaces in response to the Ukraine conflict and other crises –and it’s why passing the MINDS Act is so important right now.

This critical bipartisan legislation lays the groundwork for a global mental health strategy and emphasizes the needs of vulnerable populations –including children facing crisis, those living in poverty and conflict zones, women and girls, and communities at risk. But we need advocates like you to join SCAN now to help ensure that it passes: Please, click here to urge your lawmakers to pass the MINDS Act now. : [link removed]

Thank you for being an ally in our fight to protect children impacted by conflict and other emergencies. Together, we can help them recover from unimaginable hardships and have the hope of a brighter future, creating change that truly will last a lifetime.
