John,
The narrative that success and a better life starts with getting an education has been preached to Black communities for generations. And now, Black people are not only attending college but are graduating at higher rates than before. But of course, white supremacy has woven its way into our education system – creating unnecessary hurdles for Black students and families.
On average, Black people have nearly $53,000 in student loan debt four years after graduation—almost twice as much as their white counterparts, and President Biden has put together a relief plan that will cancel $10,000 dollars in student debt.
We'll let you do the math. It's no secret that the weight of student loan debt has caused many hardships for Americans across the country. But the reality is this: It has had a disproportionate impact on Black students and families. Black borrowers typically owe 50% more in student debt upon graduation than their white peers. Four years after graduation, this gap increases to 100%.
It was Black people who organized. It was Black people who showed up at the polls. It was Black people who put President Biden into office, and
now we'll be calling on President Biden to take swift action on canceling all student debt.
Because with the stroke of a pen, President Biden could cancel all student debt. Sign the petition NOW! >>
In love and solidarity,
