Team,

As we prepare to hear the Supreme Court's final ruling on Roe v. Wade, I wanted to take a moment to talk about the critical decision that helped pave the way for reproductive rights as we know them today: Griswold v. Connecticut.

In 1965, the Court ruling in Griswold declared that Connecticut's law banning contraception for married women was unconstitutional, and for the first time, recognized the fundamental right to privacy and bodily autonomy. This recognition laid the foundation not only for Roe v. Wade but also for Planned Parenthood v. Casey, Lawrence v. Texas, and Obergefell v. Hodges.

From the beginning of my career in public service, I've always been guided by the principle that decisions about health care should only be made between a person and their doctor — not in the White House, the United States Capitol, or in the Supreme Court. This includes the protection of the fundamental right for a woman to have autonomy over her own body, reproductive health decisions, and privacy.

Team, the simple declaration that we have a right to privacy allowed Planned Parenthood to keep its doors open and continue providing essential health care services.

But 49 years after Roe, and 57 years after Griswold v. Connecticut, we are still fighting to solidify those very same protections, and the fight to codify a person's right to make decisions over their own body ensues.

Plainly put, it is the far-right few and a Trump-packed Supreme Court who are passing dangerous, anti-choice laws that the majority of Americans don't want. And as the fight to protect a woman's right to bodily autonomy persists, and seemingly set-in-stone decisions like Griswold v. Connecticut are no longer secure, we are left to wonder: What could be next?

I will keep fighting to codify Roe, and I am committed to pushing back against extremist ideologies to protect the most vulnerable who will inevitably be impacted by these dangerous decisions. Add your name next to mine if you agree that we should put the rights of the American people ahead of the agendas of far-right politicians >>
