As we face unprecedented and harrowing challenges as a country, including
anti-immigrant policies, rhetoric, and attacks, it is important that we take
time to care for one another and to celebrate our vibrant communities. And we at
the National Immigration Law Center are doing just that as Immigrant Heritage
Month kicks off.

This month is about our stories, our identities, and our joy. For centuries, immigrants have built a rich tapestry of culture, art, and
community in this country. It is hard to find a part of everyday life in the
United States that immigrants have not shaped – our impact is felt in the movies
we watch, the music we listen to, the food we eat, and so much more.

Immigrants have been instrumental in the fight justice – for workers’ rights,
racial justice, and women’s rights – movements that have fundamentally changed
the fabric of our society.

Immigrants are powerful. Immigrants are creative. Immigrants are essential. This month and always, there is so much to be proud of in our communities.

So, whether you’re cooking your favorite comfort meal, enjoying the company of
friends and family, or remembering a loved one, know this, : this month is ours to hold on to, take pride in, and honor.

Happy Immigrant Heritage Month.

Sincerely,

Marielena Hincapié
Executive Director
