33 years ago, co-founders of the Muslim Public Affairs Council, the late Dr. Maher Hathout and Salam Al-Marayati knew that they had to position the organization at the intersection of public policy and entertainment because that is where real cultural change happens.

We have a lot of work still ahead of us in realizing true change in many facets of our society but we are very much on that road. On behalf of the board and staff, thank you, and please keep it up because we need you on this road with us now more than ever.

The MPAC Hollywood Bureau just returned from Austin, Texas where we participated in our fourth ATX TV Festival and the bottom line is that we couldn’t do it without your continued support of our work in the entertainment industry.

In the discussion, which you can register to watch on June 14 HERE, the panel of Muslim creatives went beyond the conversation of portrayals and dug deep into what it takes to create a critical mass of Muslim talent in front and behind the camera.

Creating and sustaining impactful change takes a village. We are grateful to our panelists, Ubah Mohamed, Idil Ibrahim, Hisham Tawfiq, Aasif Mandvi, and Zarqa Nawaz for joining us and for doing the heavy lifting with their storytelling talents.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to MPAC Board Members, Habib Veera, co-chair of the Hollywood Bureau Committee and to Sireen Sawaf, who moderated the panel, for joining me in Austin as we continue to solidify our work in the entertainment industry.
