Dear John,

I am reaching out today because I want to tell you about my daughter, Janelle.

I came to this country from Cuba at the age of seven. My parents, like many other immigrants, faced many difficulties and challenges. However, we recognized that this was the country of opportunities, where through hard work, education and dedication, almost anything is possible. Educated first through the Miami-Dade Public school system then Miami-Dade community college, I leveraged a professional career into a successful health care business.

The lessons my parents instilled in us, hard work and perseverance, honesty and integrity, and respecting every person regardless of their skin color or beliefs, are the qualities that my wife and I have passed to Janelle and are what makes us confident that Janelle would be a tremendous State Senator.

My wife and I watched Janelle fight and beat a most crippling disease, stage four cancer. We have watched Janelle fight vigorously for her rights as a gay woman, and now as a mother. I have also watched Janelle work in the family business, working tirelessly in various functions, never backing down from any challenge given to her.

Janelle grew up in, and is, Miami. She is a first generation Cuban American that really appreciates the wonderful opportunities this country has provided us, and consequently will work tirelessly to make sure that your families will continue to have those rights, not only today, but for generations to come. She understands our needs – quality, affordable healthcare, safety for our schools – and with an entrepreneurial spirit, she believes in the need for continued investment in our locally-owned small businesses.

Lastly, and very proudly, I can say that Janelle is ready to work for you, for our children, and for our community. I hope you’ll join me in supporting her. I know she is the right person for this job.
