Three consecutive seasons of failed rains have taken a heavy toll on families in the easternmost part of Africa. Water is depleted, crops have failed, and livestock have perished. The number of children facing acute hunger, malnutrition and thirst has grown to at least 10 million since April.
For years, this perfect storm of climate-related drought, conflict and COVID-19 has been escalating, yet there has been little to no mainstream news coverage. And the ripple effect of increasing food and fuel prices from the Ukraine conflict have only made matters worse.
