DSA: Pittsburgh Democratic Socialists of America

Hello John

Dan here from Pittsburgh DSA’s Communications Committee, making sure you know about some of the great events we’re putting on this month. See below!

Joining DSA is an important first-step! In-person chapter functions, though, are where the seeds of our movement can truly take root. We are happy that you pay your dues. We would be REALLY happy if you joined us for some in-real-life praxis!! I hope to see you this December as we continue laying local groundwork for a better future.

If you would like to attend any of these events, be sure to RSVP through the corresponding link. If you would like to be connected with an event’s lead-organizers, simply reply to this email! Event details after the jump...

Friendsgiving: Found Family, Chosen Family, Your Family
RSVP Link

Saturday, December 7th, 2:30pm

Community Forge, downstairs (1256 Franklin Ave in Wilkinsburg)

The Queer Socialist Committee is hosting a Friendsgiving Potluck! This event is open to LGBTQIA+ folks as well as community allies. Join us for an afternoon of good food and good company. Meet your comrades and share a dish! Sign up here to bring food!

The Queer Socialist Committee will be collecting toys and gifts at the Friendsgiving Celebration to donate to Community Forge's Toy Drive happening later this December! Families in the Wilkinsburg area will be able to come pick out toys and gifts that they will give to their family members.

Donations should be new or like-new. Educational toys are preferred (science kits, puzzle books, building materials), but other toys are welcome. We will also collect gifts that children can pick out to give to their parents (jewelry, scarves and winter accessories, watches, kitchenware).

Black & Pink Holiday Card Party

RSVP Link
Friday, December 6th, 6:30pm

Community Forge, 2nd floor DSA office (1256 Franklin Ave in Wilkinsburg)

Join us for the Abolition & Anti-Imperialism Committee's first annual Black & Pink Holiday Card Party. Black & Pink is an abolitionist organization that works with LGBTQ/HIV+ incarcerated people. We will be decorating pre-addressed postcards and writing messages that let our friends know that they are not forgotten during what can be a lonely time of year for some.

All supplies will be provided but feel free to bring snacks. Donations to cover postage are also appreciated.

PGH DSA General Body Organizing Meeting
RSVP Link
Thursday, December 19th, 7:00pm

Community Forge, 1st floor Atrium (1256 Franklin Ave in Wilkinsburg)

Organizing meetings are an opportunity for the entire chapter to gather, for members to meet each other, and far-flung corners of the organization to cross-pollinate. They are also an excellent opportunity for new (and dormant!) members to get involved with organizing happening right now! There will be food, song, and solidarity. Can you make it? If so, please RSVP!

We are hosting a potluck at our meeting, so feel free to bring and share any baked goods, finger foods, or non-alcoholic beverages!

If you are in need of childcare or any other assistance or accommodations to fully participate in this meeting, please tell us through the above RSVP link!
