Friend,
Nine years ago I was shot, four days after a failed vote on background checks. Tomorrow, I will testify before Congress on the urgent need to address gun violence as a public health crisis that continues to claim the lives of far too many Americans, especially in Black and Brown communities.
We know from the recent mass shootings in Buffalo, Laguna Woods, Uvalde, and at least 7 separate mass shootings this weekend [[link removed]] , the destruction that deadly firearms can inflict and o n Wednesday, June 8th, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. ET, the Committee on Oversight and Reform will hold a critically important hearing [[link removed]] to examine the gun violence epidemic in the United States. There, I will share my personal account of the long-lasting effects of gun violence, urgency to invest in community violence intervention (CVI) programs, and my work on the ground supporting recovery efforts in Buffalo.

Community Justice believes we can end this violence together. In addition to testifying before congress, we will launch our Community Violence Intervention website [[link removed]] . Through this platform, a directory of available funding and organizations saving lives will be made available to help end violence in our communities. Strengthening these community-based solutions that successfully reduce gun violence and empower survivors is essential in fighting this crisis.
