Hi, John. I'm Josh Shapiro, Pennsylvania's Attorney General and – as of a few weeks ago – the Democratic nominee for Governor of our Commonwealth.

I'll cut to the chase: At the federal level, Democrats' recent efforts to defend the right to vote, protect abortion access, and move our country forward have failed. Right now, Democratic governors are our best – and possibly only – option to take a bold stand against the GOP's extreme agenda.

But many Democrats, including me, are facing tough races this year that are going to come down to the wire. President Biden won Pennsylvania by fewer than 100,000 votes, and my fellow Democrats running in states like Georgia and Nevada are up against similar margins. 

This means that, to defend our blue firewall of Democratic Governors this year, we need powerful grassroots support. So I'm asking you, John: Please, will you split a $3 donation between my campaign and the Democratic Governors Association before tonight's 11:59 p.m. deadline?

There couldn't be more at stake in my race here in Pennsylvania. Just take a look at who I'm running against:

My opponent, Doug Mastriano, has been called "one of the most radical Governor candidates in history." Abortion is his "No. 1 issue,” and he's proudly announced his intentions to ban ALL abortions, with no exceptions. As one of Donald Trump's top supporters, Mastriano not only defended but participated in the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection, and he continues to push the Big Lie.

Mastriano might be louder and bolder about his radical views than others, but make no mistake: This is the future that the GOP is offering. Extremists like Ron DeSantis, Brian Kemp, and Greg Abbott will stop at nothing to undermine our democracy, take away our civil liberties, and push their dangerous, right-wing agenda.

The only way to stop them, the only way to protect our democracy and win a good future for our kids, is by electing Democratic leaders who will fight for us. I promise you that I'll always stand up for the values we hold dear and fight to move my state, and our country, forward. 

But the GOP's far-right megadonors are building an unprecedented war chest to defeat candidates like me and destroy our blue firewall of Democratic governors. This is an all-hands-on-deck moment, John. So please, before our critical midnight deadline, can I count on your donation to defeat GOP extremists and expand our blue firewall? Every dollar will be split between my campaign here in Pennsylvania and the Democratic Governors Association so that we can power Democrats to victory nationwide.
