As a three-star admiral in the United States Navy, I had the honor of protecting our nation, our citizens, across the globe. Commanding a destroyer, participating in the majority of the operations since September 11th, to include leading U.S. forces in East Africa in the struggle against pirates, terrorists, and anarchy… I know what it means to serve our country.
But after Donald Trump was elected, I retired from the U.S. Navy. If you don’t respect your boss, it is time to move on, and I was not going to be used as a prop for the political purposes of an irrational demagogue such as Trump.
Now I’m running for Senate because Republicans like Chuck Grassley are still acting like Trump’s lap dogs, and we need stalwart Democrats bold enough to confront the climate crisis, take on Big Pharma, and rein in Wall Street.
Mitch McConnell and his Super PACs are going to spend millions attacking me, even though I’m a hard target having been raised in rural Iowa and dedicated my life to service. So I need you in this fight if we’re going to turn Iowa blue. We must expand our Senate majority.
Iowa was one of the closest Senate races in 2020 – and Chuck Grassley’s approval ratings are abysmal here. Polling from the Des Moines Register shows that 64% of likely Iowa voters think “it’s time for someone new.”
We can win this race, and we must win it. Senate control is on the line here in Iowa.
After over 36 years in the Navy, twenty-plus moves, deployments galore, and service throughout the world, I am well prepared for the fight ahead. I’m not taking money from corporate PACs, so I’m relying on grassroots donors like you if we’re going to win.
