Recently we’ve seen unspeakable violence, motivated by hatred, sweep our nation; whether it is the vile attacks on Asian Americans provoked by the pandemic, last month’s attack in Buffalo, or the 2019 El Paso attack. We have rejected these voices before, and we must do so again.

These attacks are part of a disturbing trend in America. According to the Department of Justice, hate crimes on the basis of race or ethnicity skyrocketed from 3,963 in 2019 to 5,227 in 2020. And these trends are only getting worse.

It’s sad to see this increase, but Colin believes it’s critical to send a clear message: there are more of us than there are of them. There are more people who want to live in a country where no one is discriminated against than people who want to cause harm to those who look, speak or love differently from them.
