Dear John,
Pride Month kicked off last week, and over here at VoteRiders we’ve been expanding our efforts to support LGBTQ+ voters with the ID they need to cast a ballot that counts.
Trans and nonbinary Americans face unique challenges to securing identification that is acceptable for voting and that accurately reflects their name and/or gender identity. For transgender and nonbinary people whose ID doesn’t match their name and gender, voter ID laws can make the experience of casting a ballot confusing and deeply intimidating.
VoteRiders and our pro bono legal partners conducted a thorough review and update of our specialized #TransPeopleVote resource page, which is also featured on our partner HeadCount's Vote With Pride page. Not only can voters access our unique combination of state-by-state guides, but they can also connect directly with VoteRiders for free one-on-one help via our Helpline and Chatbot.
Here’s how you can help us get the word out to all voters this Pride Month: -
Check out #TransPeopleVote and Vote With Pride to learn about state requirements for updating vital documents and state-issued IDs. Please then share this essential information with your family, friends and community.
-
Spread the word about #TransPeopleVote on social media. You can share our posts on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook or download the Pride Month graphic from our social media toolkit.
- Join us tomorrow, June 7, when we'll be teaming up with HeadCount to host an Ask-Me-Anything event on Reddit. We will be live on /r/Politics starting at 3 p.m. ET!
-
Volunteer at one of three virtual letter-writing parties to celebrate Pride Month and ensure that all voters can vote with confidence! These will take place on June 9 at 7 p.m. ET, June 16 at 7 p.m. ET, and at another date to be added. Sign up here for Pride Month Letter Writing!
-
Donate. You will make a direct and immediate impact as we prepare voters for the crucial elections happening this year. Donate here to add your support to this campaign!
With gratitude, Roy Speckhardt, Development Director
PS: The cast of Hamilton is recording a set of PSAs for us in English and Spanish! One focuses on our #TransPeopleVote resources and the impact of voter ID laws on the LGBTQ+ community. Stay tuned for their release during Pride Month! |
