Venezuelan Feminist Tour Picnic and Discussion

Saturday, June 11 @ 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Having just ended 2022 election primaries and needing to take a solid break, we invite all DSA-LA members to a picnic where you can relax and enjoy a sunny day at the park while also listening to Venezuelan Feminist organizers engaged in the socialist struggle.

DSA International Committee and CODEPINK are teaming up to host three Venezuelan feminist activists, Mónica M., Anggie H. and Yolimar M., to the United States to discuss the impact of illegal US sanctions against their country and how they disproportionately hurt women and children.

Between May 28th and June 11th, they are slated to tour no less than 7 US cities: NYC, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Durham (NC), Portland (OR), San Francisco, and Los Angeles to end as guest speakers at The People’s Summit. DSA-LA has endorsed the People's Summit and supporting our international guests finalize their delegation tour.

Free Abortion, On Demand, Without Apology 2: Latin American Struggles

Thursday, June 9 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Building on DSA-LA’s first socialist feminist teach-in on strategies and organizing models to win free abortion on demand, without apology – this second teach-in focuses on lessons we can learn from Latin American struggles for legal abortion.

With an emphasis on recent victories in Mexico and Argentina, this event will interrogate the decades-long antecedents of these victories from across the region. Interactive discussions will highlight the groups and coalitions that built, maintained and grew massive grassroots movements and the specific strategies they employed in local and national fights to overcome entrenched resistance by the Catholic Church, the conservative parties—and in some cases—the ambivalence or opposition of leftist politicians themselves.

The deadline to submit Local Convention resolutions is June 12

Labor Committee June General Meeting

Wednesday, June 8 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Join us on Wednesday, June 8th at 7:00 p.m. for our monthly Labor Committee meeting. We will be discussing workplace organizing, the labor movement, and opportunities for DSA members to organize and build worker power.

The core of DSA-LA’s labor work is our Labor Circles program. If you are interested in joining a Labor Circle or forming a new Circle, you can begin by filling out the Socialist Workplace Survey. The survey will help us map where we are in LA’s economy and identify where we have workplace, industry and union membership densities to organize around. Take a minute and fill out the Socialist Workplace Survey today!
