John,
Last year, our state legislature passed the Climate Commitment Act, the most comprehensive and strongest carbon pricing system in the nation. Now, the sausage is being made to turn that law into the policies the state will use to guide its implementation. This includes how and what type of oversight is established for the Environmental Justice Council (established by 2021's groundbreaking HEAL Act), how corporate polluters are held accountable under this program, and the opportunities for real and tangible benefits across the landscape through sequestration and offsets.
The public comment period for all these details is now open, with four scheduled public hearings, and the opportunity to submit public testimony and written comments.
