Subject: ACTION NEEDED: Trump Should Not Force People to Choose Between
Food and Heat

Friend,

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) enables millions of
Americans who struggle with poverty and food insecurity to put meals on
the table. But despite bipartisan support for protecting SNAP in Congress,
the Trump administration now wants to make it harder for Americans to
access the program.

The administration through a new rule change in USDA (United States
Department of Agriculture) wants to cut $4.5 billion in funds from SNAP
over 5 years by changing how benefits are calculated.

[ [link removed] ]We need you to tell the Trump Administration that’s not right.

Right now, each state can account for the costs of utilities like heating,
cooling, water, sewer, etc. as they calculate SNAP benefits for
households. This new USDA rule proposal, however, unfairly standardizes
and caps Standard Utility Allowance calculations across the country based
on inadequate survey data―resulting in dramatic cuts to food stamps.

[ [link removed] ]We must send USDA a strong message: don’t make new rules that cut SNAP
and take food away from 7 million hungry people who need it. This rule
change would increase hardship for millions of low-income Americans and
must be withdrawn.

Right now, there is a public comment period on this proposed rule change
and your opinion matters!  [ [link removed] ]You only have until December 2nd to submit a
comment urging USDA to reject the proposed rule change and explaining how
this change would negatively impact your family, neighbors, and
community.

[ [link removed] ]We must make our voices heard TODAY because Nevada families are
counting on us!

Thanks for speaking up!

Maria-Teresa Liebermann

Deputy Director
