John,
Tomorrow is Election Day here in California, and I wanted you to hear from me one last time about why I serve you in Congress.
Since reclaiming the majority in Congress, my Democratic colleagues and I have proudly worked to defend our rights, freedoms, and democracy through the worst days of the Trump administration. And under President Biden’s leadership, we’ve stood together to pass critical reforms like the American Rescue Plan, which funded the most successful vaccine rollout in history, got urgent economic relief to families and businesses, and lifted our economy out of recession.
I played a unique role in negotiating and passing historic infrastructure legislation which is providing nearly a trillion dollars to upgrade roads, bridges, and water systems; build a national electric vehicle charging network; and expand rural broadband.
Even in this time of extreme partisan division, I am proud to have earned a reputation for finding ways to cut through the dysfunction and work across the aisle to get results for our community.
I’ve helped deliver major funding for environmental projects including wetlands and salmon restoration, transit operations, expanded bicycle and pedestrian pathways, and the dredging of critical navigation channels like Humboldt Bay, the Petaluma River, and the San Rafael canal.
When our communities faced devastating wildfires, I did not stop at securing emergency federal disaster relief: I kept working until we passed the largest-ever federal investment in fire preparedness, including new programs for healthier, more resilient forests and grants for local communities to develop microgrids, fire evacuation routes, and other resiliency projects.
There is no stronger voice in Congress for bold climate action than mine. I will continue to advocate for urgent climate action at home and internationally.
I continue to lead the fight to ban fossil fuel drilling off our shores and on our precious public lands, including the Arctic Refuge. And I’ve introduced legislation for federal research and conservation grants to save kelp forest ecosystems which have wiped out kelp and abalone along our coast as our ocean warms.
A generational change is underway in Congress, and as a senior member of the Natural Resources and Transportation and Infrastructure Committees I’ll have an even stronger voice in coming years – you can count on me to keep delivering on our priorities.
I would be honored to continue representing California’s 2nd Congressional District in Congress, and I hope I will have your vote tomorrow.
Thank you,
Jared
