Team,

Small businesses are the backbone of our economy. So in honor of Small Business Saturday (which was just yesterday), I’d like to highlight one of the many small businesses right here in Newark. I want to tell you about Vonda’s Kitchen.

Vonda McPherson was working a corporate career when in the late 90s, she decided to pursue her dream of opening a restaurant. Her passion for culinary arts eventually led her to open Vonda’s Kitchen in the heart of Newark.

Vonda’s may be known for soul food, but it has some delicious vegan options too. So, as you can imagine, I’m a frequent visitor -- as are many of my fellow Newarkers. Her restaurant has become a beloved neighborhood staple, employing local residents and serving amazing food.

Small businesses like hers strengthen our communities and create millions of jobs across America. I recently released a plan that would empower small businesses and help them get the resources they need to succeed. Add your name if you agree that we should support our small businesses.

My plan calls for expanding access to capital in underserved communities, empowering more entrepreneurs of color through Baby Bonds, and cracking down on practices that undermine the ability of small businesses to compete on a level playing field.

We have to create more prosperity in every part of our country -- from inner cities to rural areas. A major way we can achieve that is through promoting small business growth and development.

Sign your name here if you share my belief that we should help our entrepreneurs achieve the American dream.

I hope you’ll find some time to support a small business near you this weekend.

Cory

P.S. Vonda's has some of the best brussels sprouts around.
