Friend,

When it comes to defending the dignity and protecting the rights of LGBTQ
Americans, I know where I stand—I’m an ally, through and through.

And not just a photo-op ally who shows up once a year at Pride events and
then checks it off his to-do list the moment June comes to a close. This
is a cause I will never compromise on.

As a member of both the Congressional LGBTQ Equality Caucus and the
Transgender Equality Task Force, I work hard every day to end workplace
discrimination, school bullying, healthcare disparities, and other
barriers that stand in the way of the LGBTQ community's well-being.

But across the country, we are witnessing a renewed assault on LGBTQ
rights in state legislatures. In the first three months of 2022 alone,
[ [link removed] ]state lawmakers proposed a record 238 anti-LGBTQ bills, more than half
of which take aim at transgender people in particular. These bills even go
so far as to deny LGBTQ kids, who need validation and support at this
critical point in their development. From the “Don’t Say Gay” law in
Florida to [ [link removed] ]bans on sports participation for trans youth in Arizona and
elsewhere, these policies threaten to trample the essential rights of
every single member of the LGBTQ community and heartlessly take aim at
vulnerable children whose identities should be embraced.

[ [link removed] ]Sign if you agree: We must do everything in our power to pass federal
legislation protecting LGBTQ youth from discrimination on the basis of
sexual orientation and gender identity.

Pride is about progress, and we must keep moving ahead, especially as we
challenge a spate of despicable policies that harm LGBTQ youth and adults.

I know these times feel fraught with uncertainty for many in the LGBTQ
community. But I promise to fight all attempts at rolling back hard-won
rights. These challenges aren’t insurmountable. As we’ve seen, the arc of
history bends toward justice—and justice is worth fighting for.

[ [link removed] ]Sign the petition: Tell Congress to pass legislation to protect LGBTQ
rights.

Yours in solidarity,
Ro
