Friends -
One of the reasons I love campaigns so much is because it is an opportunity to watch democracy come alive in the communities and neighborhoods we love.
It comes alive in every street-corner conversation about the needs of an individual family or an entire block.
It comes alive with every volunteer at a community event or someone giving their time making phone calls to potential voters.
And it comes alive every time someone says I can count on their vote, and when they tell me I cannot.
I don’t have to tell you our democracy is under attack.
You know that.
Participation is the key to preserving and protecting it for this and future generations.
I am running for Congress to fight for our neighborhoods and communities in Washington, D.C. — like I have fought for these neighborhoods and communities for most of my adult life.
But I cannot get there alone. I need your participation. And that means I have to ask:
We are going to be outspent in this election. But I have been representing these communities for a long time. And if we have the resources to run an effective campaign, we are going to win.
In solidarity,
Bill de Blasio
